small paintings by Jennifer Rain Sherwin
I’ve been experimenting with using inks on canvas. I think they have an interesting quality of light about them. And the dark stippling around the figures makes them stand out in a pretty decent 3-d effect. I’m going to keep experimenting with this technique… I’d love to hear what you think!

I’ve added these to my Etsy store, in case they strike your fancy (ow!). I think they would be great in a nursery or office. They have fairly thick, painted edges, so they could also stand on a shelf, as in the photo.

Buy them here.

Sketch and Release Friday…er Saturday…

sketch and release

So, Friday came and went and I didn’t get anything ready to post. I’ve barely sketched all week, so just posting these grubby little post-it sketches.. I blame the unbearable cuteness of my new kitten! The cuteonium levels are off the charts!  (Is there such a thing as cuteonium poisoning? I think I have it!)
And look, how can I draw when she’s sitting on my sketchbook…aw!

sketch and release
Hello again,

Friday already? I just have a couple of little sketches to post…This week I’ve been kind of obsessing about owls…They are just so bizarre looking. Those eyes, that round head, those top hats. I hope that last owl catches and eats that little “thingthatstealsyourkeys”  creature that’s in front of him.

(editors note: not all owls have tophats—some wear bowlers.)

Have a marvelous weekend!

sketch and release drawings

sketch and release
Hellooooooooo! I’ve busy lately (I know, aren’t we all?), and haven’t been able to finish any drawings to the level that I usually like…. but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been drawing! So, I came up with the idea of Sketch and Release.  For some of these sketches (I usually sketch in pen), maybe I’ll go back at some point and make a finished drawing, and some are destined to only exist as a rougher sketch.

I will try to post a new batch of these from my sketchbook (and various scraps of paper) for your amusement on Fridays. If anyone wants to join in, please feel free to post a link to your own sketches in the comments. Be sure to use sketchandrelease as one of your tags!
